"Follow Me Boys"

So lately our family has been resurrecting some of the old Disney classics to watch on Sunday nights, such as "Pollyanna", "Summer Magic" and tonight we watched "Follow Me Boys". I particularly enjoyed this one because it answered a lot of questions from my youth for me, such as, "Why did my dad love boy scouts so much?" and "Is snow camping with 12 smelly boys really a lot more fun than hanging out with your cute daughter on her birthday?". Well, all you have to do is watch Fred McMurray in action to get the answers. Heck, I wanted to be a scout master after watching this film. I mean sure, Lem Siddons (Fred's character) never got to practice law as he always planned to and he never had any of his own children, but he got the wife, inherited the store and was named Scout Master Emeritus in the end with a celebration that put Mardi Gras to shame. I mean that town of Hickory really knows how to throw a party! I realize that most people reading this haven't a clue as to what I'm talking about, so you better go check out the movie and then tell me how much you loved it! It's good clean family fun that I'm sure you'll enjoy and you'll probably be stuck with that darn marching song in your head for the next 10 days too!

Oh Rach, we really were seperated at birth! I love the old Disney movies too. However, this is one I've missed. MUST pull that one out. Seeing as Spencer goes to his first scout meeting this Wed. And here's one my kids love, Swiss Family Robinson. I loved this movie as a kid. And was there any kid that DIDN'T want that tree house? Pop some popcorn and Enjoy!!

We are going to buy the Hollywood Musicals...54 dvds, at Costco for Christmas. I want all my kids to memorize the songs from 7 brides for 7 brothers and MusicMan!

My kids love Follow Me Boys and they often sing the song. It's one of the few movies my kids can watch on Sunday so maybe that's why they like it.

Follow Me Boys is one of my old classic favorites. Maybe that's what made me fall in love with your dad - just another Lem Simmons!!

doug and i just watched that last year as research for one of our projects. i thought it was great, if a little too long. they could have gotten rid of that whole army mix-up at the end and then it would've been just right.

Never heard of "Follow Me Boys", but "Pollyanna" was a classic family movie that we grew up on and watched over and over. Oh, wow, I just noticed Dan made a comment. Go Dan!

Rache, I'm so bummed. I left a long comment and for some reason it didn't go through! Just wanted you to know that "Follow Me Boys" has been a long standing joke in our family since Day One. Derrick's mom mailed it to him b/c it was his absolute favorite movie as a kid, and he's been trying to get the girls and I to watch it ever since, but we've soundly refused (mostly just to get a rise out of him.) We keep telling him it looks boring and we're not interested. Yes, I encourage this kind of disrespect in my children.

One night, the kids were asleep and he begged me to watch it w/him, so I finally consented and I really, really tried, but after what seemed like nine hours of a boring movie, I fell asleep. He still hasn't forgiven me. The girls thought that was hilarious and we're constantly fighting over whether to watch "Follow Me Boys" or Barbie, High School Musical, etc. Derrick is always enraged that we won't give his movie a chance. But now that it's received your coveted seal of approval, maybe I'll give it another try! (Derrick's recommendation surely doesn't carry as much weight as yours.)

Too funny that you posted about this! Derrick will die laughing when he reads it.:)
